What are standard composite decking sizes?

Composite decking size refers to the length and width of the boards used for deck building and repairs. Most manufacturers offer composite decking boards in 12’, 16’ and 20’ lengths. The width varies by brand and style and can range from one to two inches thick and four to six inches wide.

What are standard composite decking shapes?

In addition to standard sizes, composite decking is also offered in standard shapes. The two main shapes are grooved boards and solid boards. Solid boards are also often referred to as square edge boards.

Which boards should I use?

Grooved boards are typically used as the main/inside decking boards. Builders use solid boards for the deck picture frame and stairs. The following guide provides a quick reference for where each type of board should be installed.
